Bad April Fools' Joke

When I heard about the coup in Guinea-Bissau, I thought it was a really bad attempt at an April Fools' joke (by Foreign Policy, not by the military in Guinea-Bissau).  It turns out it was really a bad attempt at a coup.  Ha ha?
