I recently visited the Leopold Museum of Art in Vienna, where I saw multiple works by a little-known Austrian painter named Franz Sedlacek (1891-1945). His works are typically fanciful and sometimes surreal. His style is marked by the use of vivid color schemes, cartoonish and/or caricatured human faces, and strange fictional animals.
I encourage all to seek out Sedlacek's work. A Google search yields some illustrations, but most websites referring to him are in German, and there is very little in the way of biographical information out there. Strangely, there is not even a Wikipedia page on Sedlacek! There is, however, a book on him available on the German Amazon website, that I plan to obtain.
